Former Head of CSO recognised in New Year Honours

Mike Stevens, former Head of Chief Scientist Office (CSO) has been awarded Commander of the Order of Bath (CB) in the 2017 New Year Honours List.

The New Year Honours list recognise the achievements of a wide range of extraordinary people across the UK, with 1,197 people receiving an award.

Mike, part of the Chief Scientist Office since 1999 and appointed as Head of CSO in 2014, was recognised for services to research and healthcare and to the community in Edinburgh.

Mike was responsible for the creation and development of NHS Research Scotland (NRS) making Scotland a more attractive place to conduct clinical trials, and driving collaboration through all Health Boards in Scotland. On leaving the role in August 2016, he commented: “I have greatly enjoyed working with you all and believe together, through NRS and your hard work, we have transformed research into an efficient and highly regarded organisation that is now receiving international recognition.”
